We have been requested by Lazarus Press to assist if possible in helping to tie up a loose end to details being published in a new book based on the History of Langtree Village.
Betsy ( Elizabeth) Wonnacott in 1857 was helped to immigrate to America by funds from the village Freindly Society. Her husband had previously gone to US and send some monies to help fund her immigration expenses to join him.
We have on record a in 1851 a John Wonnacott ( Farm Servant from Langtree) recorded at the Union Workhouse Torrington. Is there any relationship?
If anyone has definite details and information on what happened to Betsy and her Family after she imigrated please forward details directly to Edward Gaskell
Although the first edition of the book was published end 2003 an electronic version is being prepared which will be maintained and updated. Edward would love to end this part of the story with a solution to the deleamour of how Betsy and her Husband escaped poverty in Devon.
What news of them in USA?
